Microsoft E3 Conference. Personal Reactions

So after wandering around outside in broad daylight, which is something I don't usually do unless I can help it, I finally managed to get the teabags and chocolate I was sent out to collect before rushing home to slide into my chair and miss the first half an hour of the Microsoft conference at E3 this year. Great.

Luckily, I could rewind the live stream (thank god) and watched it from the beginning. After about ten minutes, I realised Facebook and all social interaction had suddenly become dangerous territory. Spoilers were flying in every direction and before I knew it, I had already learned about the first half of the conference before I even had the chance to watch it. Also great.

So, lets get down to the nitty gritty of why I personally, wasn't satisfied with Microsofts Press Conference this year:

Everything made for the Xbox One couldn't be done anywhere else.

That just makes me angry for reasons I cannot explain and what made it even more aggravating was how one of my favourite games developers: Insomniac was the one to say this first. Seriously? Your game couldn't be made on another console? I would understand if that was because the game requires specific gimmicks of a console such as the Wii's motion controls but even then those will eventually be pulled to other consoles. Yes, i'm looking at you Playstation move. So what is it about the hardware of the Xbox One that makes you say 'It couldn't be done anywhere except on the Xbox One'?
Ryse: Son of Rome

Now don't get me wrong on this one, I love historical games that take you back in time to relive the fierce combat of an ancient empire such as Rome but when the combat system and Ai for the game look like they were made by a guy who only just heard that the Playstation 2 had was released, your audience will not be very impressed. The combat looks like a great idea, dynamic fighting where prompted button presses can instantly kill foes and the turtle shield stance thing that romans used to do to deflect Arrows from their armies. Those are cool. However, when you look like a robot that needs more oil in his hinges, then the realism is broken. Not only that, but the moments when your character points things out feel so scripted, you could almost always tell when you were about to stop moving, hold and arm up and shout something about an objective.

Battlefield 4

So... what about this is new? I mean really? The boat driving bit was cool I suppose. The guns look the same. The Ai is also hilariously unrealistic with how they fight. One guy was standing out in the open with his gun aimed towards the ground giving the player a free shot. Come on Dice. Make a decent AI for your game otherwise it will just end up being the same shit we've seen since Call of Duty 4. Hell, at least Call of Duty: Ghosts fish 'Dynamically move away from you' Super Mario 64 style. Innovation people!

No Viva PiƱata announcement

Come on! Where the hell is Viva Pinata!? I hope you don't take this too seriously though. That game isn't the greatest thing Microsoft have ever done but it would be nice to see something that the niche market might like to play.

Metal Gear Solid V: The betrayal

Since when was the Metal gear series ever under microsofts looming grasp? Wasn't Metal gear something Sony was proud to have as an exclusive or did they piss of Kojima at some point? Oh well, overall the game does look pretty damn awesome. Almost red dead redemption-like but with that metal gear feel. Also, Snake is back bitches!

Do you hate money!?

because Microsoft doesn't. Microsoft bloody loves money. In fact, it wants to take all of your money. They promised that xbox live prices would be scrapped and they were. However to even get a hold of the console to begin with, your going to need $499/£420 to get it.

Quick! Announce another console!

Confused? You better be! Microsoft announced the Xbox 360 today! No. I'm not kidding. They are bringing yet ANOTHER xbox 360 out.

I'm going to get some criticism for saying this but...

What the hell is Killer Instinct? I'm never usually left out on a reboot but this one has really swept past me.

Dead Rising 3 looks bloody amazing and its Xbox One exclusive

I want that game. Do I want an Xbox One? Re-read this entire article in an angry teenager voice. That's your answer. Zombie games are usually a piece of crap but Dead Rising is one that I managed to enjoy long enough to actually finish. I hope to see a Zombie survival horror that really immerses me and from what I saw, this was as close as I think I am going to get.

HALO!

Nothing to say here. it's Halo. What do you expect?

And finally, probably my favourite part but also my saddest

They announced Crimson Dragon. Made by the Panzer Dragoon team, dragon flying has never been done so well and I am so happy that they are finally bringing back that style of game. however, Xbox One exclusive? I am NOT happy about this... but it's expected. At least give me a PC port or something....please...
